Samson, who is a Maine Coon cat, is 4 feet long and weighs 28 pounds, is the biggest cat in New York City.
Samson is 4-year-old and has been living with his owner in an apartment in New York City since November 2013.
Samson’s owner, Jonathan Zurbel said: “He’s the [largest] cat in the city, and I welcome any challengers to step up.”
“I just watched his weight start to grow and grow. I went to the vet and she said this is the largest cat we have in the registry. I decided to claim that name and claim that throne.”
His owner says that Samson is just like a dog as he plays the game of fetch, follows him from room to room and lays nearby.
His owner adopted the cat from his older brother. He says of Samson: “He gets a lot of attention from strangers. He draws crowds of photographers. People’s reactions are often, ‘Holy s - - t! Is that a cat? That’s a lion! Is it a bobcat?’”
Samson eats up to six cans of wet food a day, several bags of dry food every week and needs a $120 grooming every few months.
Samson has an Instagram account named @catstradamus and has more than 193k followers.
His owner says: “He’s a very good cat. He’s affectionate and sweet. If there’s one thing that rules the Internet, it’s cats. It didn’t take long to build an organic following.”
The proud owner says he created Samson’s Instagram account to encourage people to adopt cats. He said: “I like to share him with people and that’s really the goal – just get him out there.”
“I want to spread pet ownership and encourage people to adopt because there are lots of cats out there that need homes.”
