Bird With Rare Condition Appears Male On One Side And Female On The Other Side


A bird with a genetic abnormality in Texas appears female on one side and male on the other!

It is completely red from one side and white on the other side!

The beautiful creature was captured and tagged up by the Inland Bird Banding Association.

It has a rare genetic anomaly called bilateral gynandromorphism, which means that aside from the white and red feathers, it also has both female and male reproductive systems!

The magnificent bird regularly visits the place where it was found, having first been banded years ago. It goes back to the feeders every year, who are so lucky to see the beautiful irregularity nature of the bird.

Ever since the organization posted a picture of the bird on their Facebook page, it has quickly become a viral celebrity!

Inland Bird Banding Association wrote on Facebook: “This northern cardinal was caught and banded by IBBA members in central Texas!

“The bird shows apparent bilateral gynandromorphism, a rare abnormality that causes it to have female plumage on one side of its body and male on the other. Such birds have both an ovary and a testis.”

The post has been shared more than 60K times and received thousands of comments.
