The shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin has instigated another round of anti-racism protests across the US.
Various media reports are now reporting that Blake was being arrested because he was violating a restraining order. Blake was shot 7 times during this process.
It turns out that the very reason why the police were sent to arrest Blake in the first place was because Blake was not supposed to be near the house in Kenosha. He allegedly sexually assaulted the victim on May 3rd, which is where decided to show up with his 3 children.
According to the Kenosha Professional Police Association and the police documents, the officers were aware that Blake had a warrant for sexual assault. That may explain why the officers seemed extremely tense in the footage that has since gone viral.
Moreover, the statement from the police argued that there was very physical resistance from Blake before the shooting. To be specific, documents claim that that Blake applied a headlock on one of the officers and was tased twice during the process. This was not filmed in the footage.
Moreover, this warrant was why Blake had been handcuffed to the hospital bed where he regained his consciousness, despite being paralyzed from the waist down. Blake’s attorney Benjamin Crump said Blake’s warrant has since been vacated but his client still faces charges.
In the criminal complaint, a victim who is only identified by her initials told the police that Blake showed up to her house at 6 a.m. while she was asleep in her bed with one of her children.
After showing up to her place and crudely stating he was here to take his belongings, Blake allegedly digitally penetrated her. The victim said this was without her consent and that she felt humiliated by the action. Moreover, it turned out that he had taken her car keys and drove off with the car.
The victim said she has known Blake for 8 years. She explained that sexual assaults like the one that happened on May 3 happened around twice every year when Blake was extremely intoxicated. For his abuse, sexual assault and trespassing, the courts issued a warrant on Blake.
