When Jacob Blake regained his consciousness, he found himself paralyzed from the waist down.
Still not fully waken up due to all the medications and handcuffed to his bed, he held his father’s hand and started crying. The news was broke out by Blakes father, Jacob Blake Sr.
Regardless of what one thinks about the shooting itself and all the controversy that followed, it still aches to hear that Blake asked his father why the police shot him so many times. During the process of his arrest, Blake was shot 7 times in the back by the officers.
The footage quickly went viral online. The already horrifying video was exacerbated by the fact that there were three of his children in the back of the car when the shooting took place. Blake’s 8 year old son, who was the oldest, was supposed to have his birthday party that day.
Jacob Blake Sr. said he had to answer questions he never wanted his grandson asking him. After the shooting, Blake Sr. said his grandson came up to him and asked why his father was just shot in the back by the police, and where his father was moved to.
The 29 year old father is currently being taken care in a local hospital. His family members have talked about how excruciating it is to see the severely injured Blake handcuffed to the bed. Blake Sr. said his son couldn’t stand up even if he wanted to.
It seems likely that something will be done about the situation, as Wisconsin’s governor said he personally does not know of any reason why Blake needs to be handcuffed to his bed.
Compounding the questions is the fact that no one really seems to have a clear answer as to why Blake is handcuffed like he is right now – the hospital referred questions to the legal authorities while the Kenosha Police Department and others remained silent on the issue.
Local police and state officials have begun collecting information on the scene. Since there were other bystanders other than the one who recorded the footage, the process will likely be a quick one.
