Christy Lynch was shopping at Aldi in Thornton with his partner for his elderly neighbor when he was shouted at and thrown out of the store.

Christy, a key worker for Liverpool City Council who is blind in one eye, said he needed his girlfriend’s help so he took her with him to the store while shopping for his elderly neighbor.

But, he was thrown out of the store because he was with his girlfriend and most of the supermarkets are allowing only one person to enter the store.

Christy told the Liverpool Echo: “It was really embarrassing for me to be treated like that. It was humiliating to be shouted at and told to leave in front of a massive queue.”

He said he always shops from the same branch and there were other couples as well but they threw him and his partner for shopping together.

Christy said the security guard shouted at him and told him to get out of the store. He tried to make the security guard and the management understand his situation but they didn’t listen to him.

He said: “I had a mask on. I take this situation seriously and my partner was there because I need assistance while shopping.

“I’m not an aggressive person at all and I was trying to be diplomatic throughout the whole of this.”

Aldi has now apologized for the incident and said it was a misunderstanding.

An Aldi spokesperson said they are encouraging customers to not bring many family members with them to maintain social distancing.

However, people with a condition like Christy can bring a partner with them.

The Aldi spokesperson said: “However, where necessary, customers can shop with others, and we will remind the security guard at our Thornton store of this policy.”
