A blind woman was left in tears after she was denied service at a Yo! Sushi restaurant.
28-year-old Lucy Edwards is a journalist from London, UK, who was reduced to tears by an “aggressive” waiter who refused to serve her at the restaurant’s Bond Street branch.
According to the reports, the staff repeatedly denied service to Lucy after spotting her guide dog named Molly.point 369 |
To make matters worse, the waiter refused to budge and became “irate” and “aggressive” after Lucy explained to him that she is allowed to enter the restaurant with her service dog thanks to the anti-discrimination law.point 191 | 1
“I’m telling you the dog is not allowed!” the Yo! Sushi employee proclaimed as Lucy was fighting back her tears.
Even after the 28-year-old and her fiancé, Olly, confronted the staffer and told him that their dog has to be allowed in the restaurant, the waiter continued to refuse to take them to their table and serve them.
“You can’t tell me that my guide dog is not allowed. You’re breaking the law,” Lucy said before the restaurant’s manager appeared.
“I cannot get around without her, and you guys are refusing me entry to your establishment… basically you are discriminating against a blind woman,” she added as she threatened to call the police after the supervisor arrived.
Though the couple was eventually allowed to dine inside the restaurant, Lucy and Olly decided to leave the building with haste. “Read up on the law and never do this to a guide dog owner again,” the journalist added before storming out of the restaurant.
After her ordeal, Lucy’s story went viral, whereas Yo! Sushi has since apologized for the incident. A spokesperson also reached out to MailOnline to confirm that a mistake was made and that guide dogs are welcome in all of their restaurants.
