Around the world, people with disabilities are always treated with compassion and kindness but this real-life story just might shock you.
However, this next story is one that just might make you angry. A blind worshiper was recently kicked out of a church because he was being accompanied by a service dog.
For those who may not be aware, service dogs assist people with a wide range of disabilities so that they can assist them in leading a healthy and close to normal life.point 394 |
Not only do they assist them in completing their daily tasks as well as chores, but they also go about enabling them to complete a wide array of activities that they simply can’t do on their own.point 165 | 1
But that didn’t seem to go through the minds of those in charge of a church situated in Lowcountry Bluffton. The incident sparked major outrage and fury in the community because many failed to understand the behavior displayed by authorities from the church.
29-year-old Taylor Burch who has been declared legally blind says he attended his routine service on the weekend with his service dog by his side. While he was initially invited by a number of greeters at the doorstep, he soon realized that things would go from bad to worst.
At first, one of the volunteers at the church questioned him like he did not believe him.point 186 | “I felt so humiliated, frustrated as well as shocked at the same time,” he went on to add.point 271 |
But to everyone’s fury, the church says they feel strongly about how they did nothing wrong.point 83 | They also explained how both Churches, as well as Synagogues, are exempt from the Disabilities Act.point 167 | 1
But that was simply no justification for their behavior, explained Taylor’s sister. She added how unbelievingly rude and heartless the church was about the whole situation. “How can a place that teaches love and acceptance say no to a boy that’s so well behaved and has a trained dog,” she cried.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think the church should be held accountable for their unfair actions or not?
