Blind Writer Travels All Over The World To See The World’s Most Beautiful Places Using His Special Glasses


A blind writer has traveled all over the world and has seen hundreds of the world’s beautiful sights, thanks to a pair of pioneering glasses.

24-year-old James Laird, from Leigh, Lancashire, was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) a rare genetic disorder when he was eight. He lost his 95 percent vision but it didn’t stop him from pursuing his dream of traveling.

James said: “When I was young I was told about my diminishing eyesight and vowed from the get-go that I’d never let it stop me.  My dream was always to travel. The world is a gigantic place with billions of experiences to discover.”

He started traveling with his family in the beginning and then began to travel independently.

In 2016, he came to know about the specially-designed Augmented Reality glasses worth £9,000. The glasses help people with vision problems to navigate independently and see better in dark.

Thanks to the special glasses, he now can do the things which were impossible for him before like scuba diving, quad-biking and watching a space rocket launch.

Since then, James has been traveling all around the world and has seen hundreds of the world’s most beautiful places.

He has also written a sci-fi book. He said: “I’ve used my set of specially adapted AR Glasses to the limits of their lives. These glasses have honestly changed my life.”

“I have visited uninhabited Islands near the Philippines at night to see the wildlife which was truly remarkable and something I would have never got to see otherwise.”

“The beaches were incredible too I couldn’t even tell where the beach ended and the water started it was that clear, at first I thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me but everyone else said the same.”

He says because of the glasses, he could see some of the worlds greatest natural beauties, including the Niagara falls, quad biking in the Sahara desert and incredible ports in Shanghai.
