When it comes to technology, sleek is the in thing.

It’s clean and smooth and there’s something about being minimalist that conveys both competence and daring. Perhaps this is why car manufacturer BMW went ahead and ditched its old logo and replaced it with a more minimalist design.

Instead of the black ring surrounding the middle of the logo, there is now a transparent one. The font and the blue and white checked circle were also given a more modern look.

If you’re someone who thinks that no one should mess with a classic, then you’re in luck because the logo won’t be showing up on their cars any time soon.

The German brand showcased its new logo on its Concept i4 vehicle but said that it had “no plans” to place the new logo on the front of its vehicles.

The new logo is meant for “brand communication only” so while it will appear on BMW’s websites, social media, press releases, and intern communications, die-hard car fans will still have the classic logo on the cars themselves.

Jans Thiemer, BMW’s senior vice president of customer and brand, clarified in a statement that the revamped logo “radiates openness and clarity,” and added: “With this new transparent variant, we want to invite our customers more than ever to become part of the BMW world.

“The additional communication logo symbolizes the significance and relevance of the brand for mobility and driving pleasure in the future.”

The logo that we see right now made its debut back in 1997, just one among the six that the company has used in the more than 100 years it has been in existence.

One fun fact about BMW drivers is that they are more prone to be caught speeding or driving recklessly.

This was based on a study that car retailer Peter Vardy carried out. In terms of overall offenses, drivers of green Audis would be the most likely offenders.

On the other hand, Vauxhall drivers, at least, those who drove grey cars, were found to be the safest drivers.
