Bohemian Rhapsody’s success at the box office has made the hit rock band Queen richer than the Queen of the United Kingdom.
The band members are now collectively worth a staggering $580m whereas the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, is worth around $483m.
Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor are the remaining band members who were fortunate enough to see their lives turned into an epic drama.
The biographic drama about the life of Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury, played by Rami Malek, ended up swelling the bank accounts of the aging rockstars.
Malek received several awards for his role including an Oscar for Best Actor.
According to the Sunday Times Rich List, Bohemian Rhapsody made over $1 billion at the box office just with a measly budget of $52m.
Taylor and May, who were the consultants of the movie, bagged a whopping $33m as a result of the response the movie got from the fans of the hit band.
Some sources say the guitarist and drummer could get as much as $91m due to the success of the production.
“They will be massively in profit,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “Because Queen Films made the film, they are quite high up the waterfall of money that cascades down from the film.”
“This film was created and managed by Queen, which means they can protect their share.
“I would expect the studio to get around 50 per cent and the rest to go to the surviving Queen members and the Freddie Mercury estate.”
As for the fourth member of the band, John Deacon has a 25% stake in Queen Productions Limited, so he will be making a lot of money as well.
Bohemian Rhapsody features the dramatic rise of Queen’s lead singer Mercury, tracking the period from his joining the band to the Queen’s iconic Live Aid performance.
