Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters, an American R&B singing group that achieved mainstream success in the ‘70s and ‘80s, has passed away at the age of 69, her sister Anita confirmed the heartbreaking news to TMZ.
She told the outlet: “It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of The Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning.”
“Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time.”
Her statement continued: “Bonnie was my best friend and we talked every day, we never had a fight in our life, I already miss her and I will see her again one day.”
It was in 1969 when the Grammy-winning singer’s career started after she and her sister June created their band before their sisters Anita and Ruth joined the group.
Their first single was Yes We Can, followed by their second hit Fairytale.
Bonnie decided to leave The Pointer Sisters in 1977 for a solo career, and her first titled album produced the disco song ‘Heaven Must Have Sent You.’
Bonnie then tied the knot with Motown Records producer Jeffrey Bowen in 1978. But in 2014, the songstress filed for divorce which was finalized in 2016.
The Pointer Sisters achieved their biggest success after Bonnie left the group. As a trio, the band saw its greatest commercial success during the ‘80s and had their hit songs Automatic and Jump (For My Love).
Their other hit songs are Slow Hand, He’s So Shy, and Neutron Dance.
