An 8-year-old boy has been hospitalized in critical condition after bullies doused him with petrol and set him on fire.
Kyrylo Yatsun suffered horrific burns to 35 percent of his body after the horrifying incident which occurred in Dnipro, Ukraine.
The schoolboy is said to have been playing in the courtyard when local bullies several years older than him suddenly attacked him.
The thugs approached the boy and doused him with petrol before setting him on fire, according to reports.
Witnesses said that his clothes caught fire and he fell on the ground screaming in pain while the bullies laughed and fled the scene.
People who saw what happened rushed to help the 8-year-old and they managed to remove his burning clothes while someone called an ambulance.
Kyrylo was rushed to intensive care unit and underwent numerous surgeries. Doctors had to remove patches of damaged skin from his hips, arms, torso and head.
For ten days, doctors fought for the boy’s life, which is still in danger.
“The boy was hospitalised in a grave condition with severe burns to 35 per cent of his body,” said Doctor Artem Posunko from Dnipro Regional Children’s Hospital to local media.
“We do everything possible to keep him alive. He is conscious and can speak but his injuries are very serious and his condition is still life-threatening.”
The boy’s mother, Eugenia Yatsun, told the local media: “I was cooking lunch at home when some children rushed in and said that Kyrylo was injured.
“I ran outside and saw my son lying on the ground. The skin on his belly and legs was badly burned.
“He told me that they did it to him on purpose without any reason. They are not children, they are monsters.”
If found guilty, the attackers will be placed in a correctional facility for minors.
