A toddler who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy has been dumped by the side of a road in China with just a quilt and a baby bottle.
A heartbreaking video shows the abandoned child, just a year old, found by the side of Huiwu Road in the city of Huixian in central Henan Province on July 31, 2019. His parents left him due to cerebral palsy.
The footage showed people gathered around the child as he laying on a blue quilt with a bottle of milk in one hand.
Officers with Huqiao Police Station and other staff members from the city’s Civil Affairs Bureau were called to decide what to do next.
The authorities decided to take him to the Huixian Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Doctors said the boy very likely has cerebral palsy, and that his parents may have abandoned him due to the incurable congenital condition according to local media reports.
The boy could not speak and walk on his own, but he was not found with any physical injuries. Doctors treated him very well.
Police handed him over to the Huixian Children’s Welfare Institute, where he will stay as investigations continue.
Police said they were searching for the child’s parents, who face charges for abandoning him.
Each year, about 100,000 children are abandoned across China, according to China’s National Health and Family Planning Commission, mostly because they have disabilities.
It is said how these kids are treated by their parents, this is nothing but a shameful and disgusting behavior. It is also sad to know that people like them exist in the world. We hope the police find his parents soon and be punished for such a cruel act, because they deserve it.
