A young boy has become a viral sensation for bringing a chicken into a hospital for treatment after he accidentally hit it with his bike.
6-year-old Derek C Lalchhanhima from Sairang, India, was desperately trying to save the life of a chick he hit with his bike despite the animal already being dead.
According to family and friends, they couldn’t calm down the concerned youngster who grabbed a 10-rupee note and rushed to the hospital with the chicken.
In the hospital, a nurse took a picture of the boy and tried to explain to him that the animal has already passed away. Refusing to believe what they told him, Derek took the animal directly to a doctor.
After the boy’s worried expression was shared on the internet, thousands of people applauded him for his selfless act.
Derek’s school was also impressed by the actions, awarding the boy with special recognition for his kindness and compassion.
“I’m laughing and crying all at the same time,” Sanga Says captioned the photo of the boy holding the dead chick he shared on Facebook.
“According to the father, the boy came home with the neighbor’s chick that he had accidentally killed,” he added in an interview with NDTV.
“He did not understand that the chick is dead and begged his parents to take it to the hospital. His father told him to go himself, which he did with ten rupees.”
After the hospital told the 6-year-old to return home, Derek gathered all of his savings (100 rupees) and returned to the hospital once more to get help for the chick.
“God bless his pure and honest little heart,” one commenter wrote on Facebook after the boy’s story went viral.
“This is heart-touching,” another one added.
As for Derek’s father, who is a police officer, he couldn’t be any more proud of his little boy. “He’s always been a rather unique kid,” he said.
