A four-year-old boy rushed to a hospital after he started showing coronavirus symptoms but the doctors found out he also has a brain tumor that is inoperable.
Matteo Ferruzzi from New York underwent two surgeries at Cohen Children’s Hospital and was told he couldn’t get chemotherapy due to coronavirus and was asked to go back home to recover.
Matteo needs to be recovered from coronavirus before he has chemotherapy.
The situation has become worse as his mother has also tested positive for coronavirus.
The mother and son both are not allowed to come in contact with each other and are now living in isolation separately.
His mother Jennifer Ferruzzi told WISTV: “It was hard for me to be in the bedroom, so sick, and hearing him out there and not being able to tell him, “It’s OK. Mommy’s here”.”
“It’s such a crazy time for the whole world. We are all in a crisis. The best time I can get a good cry in is when I am in the shower.”
Jennifer hopes for Matteo to recover soon so he can start his chemotherapy.
The mother has now issued a warning to parents to take immediate action if they notice their children showing coronavirus symptoms.
She said: “If your child is showing symptoms or complaining about something, absolutely get them into their pediatrician right away, and even if it’s nothing, it is better to be safe than sorry.”
Matteo’s father Anthony has created a GoFundMe page to raise $5,000 for Matteo’s treatment.
The mother thanked everyone for their support and help after the fundraiser raised more than $43,416.
She said: “The outpouring of love from Saint James … thank you, everyone, from the bottom of our hearts.”
