5-Year-Old Boy Did Yard Work With Neighbor Every Day After His Dad Was Deployed In Syria

It was Father’s Day 2017 when Molly Cravens from Belleville, Illinois, shared pictures of her little 5-year-old neighbor, Brian Kelly, and her father, Dean Cravens.

The two were doing some yard work together after the kid approached Molly and asked her if he could help her father with work.

Since Brian’s father was deployed to Syria, the boy comes to his neighbors asking to work with Dean on a daily basis.

“This is our little neighbor. His dad is deployed in Syria and everyday he comes to the door asking to work with our dad. Appreciate today,” Molly tweeted.

Before his father, an Air Force Captain, got deployed, Brian and he were often doing yard work together. For that reason, it is Brian’s dream to become “a lawnmower man” and he simply can’t wait for his dad to come back home doing nothing.

“He eats something, then comes over … to see if I can do yard work,” Dean said. “He doesn’t ask if I can come out and play. He wants to know if I can do yard work.”

With Brian’s dad’s absence in place, the boy has found a dad figure in Dean who feels happy about the time he spends with his little neighbor. He never denied Brian’s request and always finds some yard work to do.

“I just like to see the smile on his face and see him happy doing it,” Dean added.

“Brian and my dad are absolutely adorable. It’s like having a little brother whenever he comes around,” Molly explained.

“I don’t take any of this for granted,” Brian’s mother said. “Dean is sincere. It comes from his heart. This is nothing he felt obligated to do. Dean is definitely a blessing to our family.”
