At that time, Luke Sturrock, 12, was home alone.

Luke’s dad Ivan Sturrock and his elder son were out struggling to put the fire down.

They had instructed Luke to flee the house if the fire got out of control and threatened his life by driving to an orange tree 2.4 miles from home.

When Luke noticed that the fire was too close and his life was in danger, he decided to abandon the house. The brave boy grabbed his dog and left the place in his brother’s Ford Ranger.

He was pulled over by firefighters an hour later after they noticed that a young boy was driving a pickup.

“Typical farm boy, he was pretty clever, I think the problem was he just didn’t quite know where to go and it was hard to see with all the smoke,” Craig Spencer, from the Bindoon Bushfire Brigade, told ABC Radio Perth.

“So I think he probably panicked a bit and when we found him he was pulled up on the side of the road.”

The firefighters took the boy to a safe location and handed him over to the police so that they could contact his family and reunite him with them.

Luke’s dad had taught his boy to drive at a young age so he could tackle such kind of incidents.

“We taught him to drive since he was about seven just in case things like this do happen and I was quite proud of him; he did exactly what we told him to do,” Ivan told ABC News.

Luke was reunited with his family by Dalwalinu Police officer Michael Daley.

The policeman suggested the families living in the area to “have a plan and know it” in case of a bushfire threat.

Currently, there are warnings about life-threatening bushfires in the eastern and western areas of Australia.

In the Western Australian state, the fire crews have been working their best to put down the massive bushfires just north of Perth for more than six days now.

The extensive bushfire affected an area of more than 13,000 hectares. However, it has been put down in most of the regions and the dislocated people can hopefully return to their homes soon.
