An eight-year-old boy was so inspired by his favorite footballer that he decided to follow his footsteps.
Lennon Rainbow’s favorite football Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin was seen visiting food banks and Lennon was touched by his act that he decided to do the same for people in need.
Speaking to LADbible, his mom, Sophie, 36, said: “My son saw one of his favorite players for Newcastle United, Allan Saint-Maximin getting involved with a food bank in Newcastle. He decided he also wanted to do something to help food banks.
“I told him what they were and why they were used and he was determined to help. I sent out a message on our estate’s Facebook group telling neighbors what he was doing and asked if they wanted to help.”
Lennon said: “I wanted to help because the footballers have done it, and some people don’t have that much food but we do.”
Sophie said that they received many messages back, with neighbors to help out.
She continued: “He planned four collections over two weeks. We were inundated with people telling us they’d left bags of food on their drive or at their door.
“He took his dad’s wheelbarrow out in all weathers collecting the food.”
“Our local food bank, Wansbeck Valley, invited him for a look around to see what happens to the food! We collected a massive amount and my car boot was overflowing.
“In general he wanted to help as he sees his favorite footballers get involved with charity work and thinks he’s just like them.”
Sophie shared the photos and wrote about Lennon’s good deed on Twitter. People started praising the young boy for his selfless deed.
One Twitter user wrote: “Well done young man. Brilliant effort.”
Another wrote: “Well done that young man, good parenting always stands out.”
Lennon told LADbible: “If I ever get to meet any of the team it would be the best time ever.”
His mother said that they received a reply from Newcastle United, and even the man that inspired it all.
She added: “Allan Saint-Maximin did respond on twitter to arrange a meeting but we’ve not heard anything since.”
