9-year-old boy Colton Williams from South Carolina was accidentally shot by his father during their Thanksgiving hunting trip.
The fourth-grader has helped save the lives of three people by donating his organs.
His family members said to WYFF that Colton was rabbit hunting with his father and a family friend when his dad accidentally shot him. After the accident, his maternal grandfather Vince Furtick said that Colton had helped others by donating his liver and kidneys.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Furtick wrote: “God has Colton in his arms now and we truly miss him but rest in the knowledge that we will see him again one day. Life goes on and in Colton’s case, three lives were saved by his donated kidneys and liver.”
He added: “He was the brightest light in our lives and he will be missed greatly.”
Colton is the only grandson of Furtick and his wife Beverly.
A GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses raised over $15,000. The page’s description wrote: “He absolutely loved the outdoors and was such a beautiful, talented little boy.”
It added: “His parents, Brian Williams and Caiti Furtick are two of the best people I have ever met. This devastating loss to their family is so heartbreaking.”
A fourth-grader at Kelly Edwards Elementary School, Colton was recently chosen to play on the All-Star Football Team, according to his obituary. Aside from sports, he also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and playing the piano.
Rest in peace, Colton! Thank you for saving other people’s lives. You will always be remembered.
