A heroic dad shared the moment he rescued his four-year-old son from a 15ft scrub python that tried to drag him from their home.
Evan Thompson was hosting a party in his home in Queensland when the giant python attacked his 4-year-old son, Clifford.
But it could have been worse if Evan didn’t immediately jump into action.
“I just heard a bunch of screaming. I instantly turned around and just saw what was happening,” Evan told 7 News.
“It was just a massive snake. Its head was very big and was latched onto his leg. At that stage he was holding onto the side of the boardwalk and it was just pulling him into the bush.”
As soon as he realized the danger his child was in, Evan immediately ran toward his son and punched the snake in the head.
The reptile let go of Clifford for only a second but it curled back up and bit him again.
“Within a split second it bit him again so I grabbed it by the throat and pried its jaws open – I managed to break its jaw,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
“At this stage, it started to yank him back further. I could see it start to cause a significant cut to his leg.”
The heroic father ‘grabbed its jaw and bent it back’ so hard that the animal finally let go of Clifford.
“My mate and my wife went to the toolshed and found a sledgehammer and my mate hit it,” he said.
“If it had let go of my son when I first punched it I might have let it go but it was so aggressive I couldn’t go to work with this thing crawling around my house.
“I’ve dealt with snakes before but nothing like this it would have been 15 foot. I have a three-year-old daughter as well, we’re just glad it didn’t grab her.”
Clifford was rushed to Proserpine Hospital before he was transferred to Mackay.
“If I wasn’t there this snake would have killed him,” Evan added.
