A 6-year-old boy decided to set up a joke stand to make people laugh during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Callaghan McLaughlin from Saanich, British Columbia, Canada usually sets up a lemonade stand but because of coronavirus pandemic and social distancing rules, he and his witty mom came up with a brilliant idea.
In an interview with CNN, Callaghan’s mom, Kelsea McLaughlin, said: “I had to think of something that was going to be contactless and cashless, but also had the same sort of community spirit and social aspect that a lemonade stand has.”
The 6-year-old boy then set up a joke stand and gives out free jokes for 45 minutes to people who pass by.
He told CBC News: “There’s a lot of stress in the world and I kind of want to get some smiles on people’s faces.”
The young boy gets his puns from the children’s joke book titled Laugh Out Loud Jokes For Kids by Rob Elliott but he has also learned new ones from neighbors who stop by his joke stand.
“He usually has a pretty high success rate of a joke returned,” Kelsea shared. “He has learned a whole new repertoire.
Many of the people in their neighborhood are elderly and Callaghan’s joke stand has a positive impact on their community.
Actor Ryan Reynolds also reshared the story on Twitter and called the 6-year-old boy a ‘Hero.’
One Twitter user commented: “Thank you for this story. Right now we/I need more stories like this and please forward my thanks to the young man for the joy he brings us all.”
Another wrote: “This kid is going far in life! What an awesome idea!”
A third added: “He certainly made me smile when I saw it on the news.”
