A 16-year-old hero died after a bully shot him for helping his helpless classmate.
Samuel Reynolds stopped the bully from beating up his classmate but the tormentor shot him dead. The incident was caught on camera and the attacker has been arrested by police.
According to The Washington Post, Christopher Cook of the Arlington Police Department said: “Our victim had broken up a fight a few days prior between what he described as a smaller boy, who was kind of being picked on. After he broke up the fight, he started having some trouble with the suspect.”
The devastated family described Samuel as “one of the most compassionate and helpful people you could ever meet.” They said he was the kind of person who would do the right thing to help others.
After trying to stop the fight, the bully, believed to be aged 13 to 15, saw Reynolds at the Pinewoods Apartment and shot him. He had used a .40 caliber gun and Reynolds passed away in a hospital.
“He pulls out a handgun from the rear part of his pants he was wearing, points it at the victim and fires one round,” Cook added.
The bully teen was arrested and charged with murder. “It’s just so senseless. It’s so tragic. It could’ve been avoided,” Cook said.
Reynolds’ obituary described him as someone with a “charming personality and a wonderful sense of humor.”
Shay Tyes, a family friend, also said: “He was always there to help, whether someone needed a shoulder to cry on or a joke to laugh at. His charming personality and wonderful sense of humor are going to be missed by so many people.
“I think this just encourages us to go out and to be like Sam and to follow the example that Sam has set for us.”
