A 6-year-old boy was out playing with friends when a pit bull suddenly ran into them, locking on to him.
Surveillance cameras show the horrifying incident. It seems like little Mason just wanted to greet the pooch but it knocked him over.
His mother, Jillian Lindeman, said to KXXV: “My son was just lying on the ground. He’s six he kind of knows what to do but he’s never been put in a situation like that.”
The other children managed to run away while the pit bull pinned Mason down. He screamed at the top of his lungs and that’s when 19-year-old Grant Brown heard him.
The teen didn’t think twice when he saw the dog attacking the boy.
Speaking about the incident, Brown told KHOU: “I heard him first. Once I noticed that the dog focused on me, I started to run, to get the dog away from the boy.”
Footages from different houses show Brown running down the street and making noises by clapping his hands to get the attention of the dog.
The pit bill followed him, leaving the 6-year-old boy alone.
His mother, Lindeman, said: “His face was just all bloody, his neck was all bloody, it’s all down his arm.” The dog bit on the back of Mason’s head. Things could’ve been much worse if it wasn’t for Brown’s heroic actions.
“I looked back and my shoes came off,” Brown expressed. “I tripped and fell the dog was on top of me before I knew it and I knew I had to keep his mouth away from me.”
He added: “I was using my hands, you know, just push it away, but my hand ended up in his mouth and that’s when he bit me.”
After receiving medical treatment, Brown is now doing fine.
Lindeman says Brown is the reason why her son is still alive today. “I just want to give the guy a hug,” she said.
“There’s nothing I can do but just say thank you. I still think that if it weren’t for him, that … I don’t know if my son would be here.”
Brown said: “I have two younger siblings, so I would hope that someone would do the same for them.”
