A young boy has left a touching letter outside a shelter along with his beloved dog in order to protect the puppy from his abusive father.
The incident occurred in Michoacán, Mexico, where a 12-year-old boy named Andrés dropped off his pit bull pup at Refugio Xollin.
Along with the puppy that was packed in a carton box, the boy attached a touching letter that, when translated in English, read:
“My name is Andrés and I am 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave my dog in your hands, hiding it from my dad because he is thinking about selling him. But he mistreats and kicks him.
“One day he kicked him so hard that he hurt his tail. I hope you can help and take care of him. I left him a stuffed animal so he won’t forget me.”
After coming across the pup, the shelter shared the pictures of the animal and the letter on Facebook where the boy’s story went viral.
While hundreds of animal lovers requested the shelter to adopt the pit bull puppy, Refugio Xollin quickly urged the people to open their hearts to other animals that are awaiting adoption. Some people have also expressed their concerns over the wellbeing of the boy who turned the dog in.
“If everyone opened their hearts and their homes like they did for this little dog, they would have adopted all our dogs from the shelter,” the shelter wrote in their post.
