A twelve-year-old boy, who received a nine-year-old girl’s heart after she died in a car crash, has paid a touching tribute to his little donor.
Max Johnson received Keira Ball’s heart in August 2017 after she died in a car crash.
Keira’s parents Joe and Loanna Ball, from Barnstaple, Devon, donated their little girl’s heart to Max who had a heart enlargement condition.
Max has now paid a touching tribute to Keira who gave him a second chance at life.
He paid the tribute to Keira to mark the new organ donation law named ‘Max and Keira’s Law’ which means everyone over 18 can be a donor unless they wish not to.
In the heartwarming video, Max can be seen sitting with Keira’s parents Joe and Loanna Ball at his home in Winsford, Cheshire while paying tribute to their little girl.
Max, who calls Keira’s parents his second family, said in the video: “If it was not for Keira and her parents’ decision to donate then I probably would not be sitting here. I love Keira’s family like a second family, seriously I do.”
“Thank you for saying yes. If Keira could hear me now I would say thank you so much, I will cherish your gift to me for my entire life.”
Joe described Max as a brilliant boy while Max’s mother Emma said the video will help people see the importance of organ donation.
Max and Keira’s Law is expected to roll out next year. Under this law, everyone over 18 can be a donor after they die, unless they register to opt-out.
The law is expected to saves many lives as patients in desperate need of an organ transplant will be hugely benefitted from it.
