An 11-year-old boy was shot dead at a Walmart parking lot after he was left unsupervised in a car along with another child.
The tragic incident took place in Dallas, Texas, where two children aged 9 and 11 were left unsupervised in a car parked at a Walmart Neighborhood Market parking lot on Sunday afternoon.
While the two boys were alone in the vehicle, the 9-year-old found a handgun and fatally shot the 11-year-old with it.
According to the authorities, the two children were left alone after a 32-year-old woman, who was responsible for looking after the kids, went shopping. As of this writing, the police have yet to reveal how the woman is related to the two boys. According to ABC 8, however, the two children weren’t related.
Following the saddening incident, the 11-year-old was rushed to the hospital. He later succumbed to his gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.
“When officers arrived at the location, they found an 11-year-old male with a gunshot wound,” Dallas Police Department confirmed in a statement.
“The complainant was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased. The witness, a 32-year-old female had parked her vehicle at the location and left the complainant and the 9-year-old male suspect alone in her vehicle while she went shopping.
“Initial reports are that the suspect found a handgun in the vehicle and shot the complaint. The investigation is ongoing.”
As of this writing, the case is still under investigation and the authorities have yet to name the 32-year-old woman and reveal whether she will face charges.
