A 14-year-old boy has become the youngest person in Britain, and one of the youngest children worldwide, to get the chance to fly solo in a powered aircraft.
The young aviation enthusiast, Maksim Ferguson, managed to bypass Britain’s laws, which require the person to be at least 16 years old to fly, by going to Canada together with his father.

During his vacation, the young man made his dream of flying solo come true as he took to the sky in a powered plane at Spectrum Airways in Ontario, Canada.
Despite the gusty weather conditions and the fact that several flights were canceled, the 14-year-old was allowed to take off in a single-engine Piper PA-28, make a short trip, and touchback at the runway without any help.
“I wasn’t expecting to go solo when I did. They had canceled nearly all the flights as the weather was so bad and I thought that any opportunity to fly had gone out the window. Then we got a call from the Chief Flying Instructor saying let’s head out, who then said I was ready and I could go solo,” Maksim recalled.
“It all happened so fast and I was so nervous sitting there on the runway in the plane by myself. It also didn’t help that my dad and all my Instructors were stood right beside it filming me and taking pictures!
“This whole experience is a massive tick off my flying bucket list. I want to go solo in the UK as soon as I turn 16 and we will definitely be coming back to Canada before then so I can go solo again.”
Before the young man who aspires to become a commercial airline pilot or an RAF pilot could fly, however, he had to go through a series of tests and examinations to prove himself capable of flying solo.
“The funny thing is, my dad was once terrified of flying, but he overcame his fear and got his pilot license when I was really young. I’d grown up around planes because of my dad and absolutely loved flying from my very first lesson,” the boy added.
