A 3-year-old boy who passed away after his step-father attacked him spent his final hours in urine and blood-soaked bedding.
Young Riley Siswick was found dead two days after he was punched by 26-year-old Kyle Campbell at their home in Huddersfield.
When cops arrived at the scene prosecutor Robert Smith QC said there was a strong smell of feces and urine coming from the child’s room.
The QC added neither the boy’s mother, 26-year-old Kayleigh Siswick, nor Campbell reported about Riley’s health condition which “would have been obvious” to anyone.
The child’s body was found in blood and urine-soaked bedding. It is believed he had wet himself numerous times and blood had come out of his mouth as his body deteriorated.
Mr. Smith said the boy was injured in his abdomen, “either from a fist or by jumping or stamping on him or by striking him with an object.”
Even though his bowel was severely injured that his stomach contents spilled inside, nobody called emergency services.
Mr. Smith said the injury resulted in peritonitis which would’ve caused a lot of pain and it “would have been obvious to the person who caused the injury or any adult who saw him after the injury was sustained on Thursday afternoon.”
The prosecutor said the boy eventually passed away from hypovolemic shock and peritonitis. “His situation was a medical emergency,” he expressed.
“His deteriorating condition would have been obvious to both defendants. Why, at any time from that Thursday onwards, neither of the defendants telephoned for medical help or took him to accident and emergency at the local hospital.”
Campbell denied murder and allowing or causing the death of a child. He also denied two counts of causing bodily harm. The mother also denied allowing or causing the death of a child.
The trial still goes on.
