16-year-old Cameron Warwick hanged himself in the woods after classmates ridiculed him for his sexuality.
The teen from Fareham was found lifeless after struggling with bullying from his classmates because he’s gay.
Cameron, who came out as gay when he was 12, had struggled with depression and autism.
His devastated mother, Kerry Warwick, said he was bullied by students at his school, with some pupils throwing things at him.
“They would bully him and isolate him. They would throw things like food at him, trip him up in the corridor, and call him horrible names like ‘autistic f***’,” she said.
“The bullies would prey on the fact he was gay. He was ostracised, with pupils refusing to sit with him and calling him names. By Year 10, he had resigned himself to the bullying.”
The inquest also heard that Cameron had broken up from his 18-year-old boyfriend Christopher Robertson.
Christopher said to the inquest: “I believe Cameron was relentlessly bullied at school by other students for coming out as gay.”
A school friend of Cameron, Bill Ashcroft, also said: “One boy at school told him he was ugly. He didn’t keep his mental health a secret, if something was wrong he would always talk to us about it.”
Kerry said her son had started hurting himself because of the bullying he experienced. His mental condition deteriorated even further after failing to get into a gaming course.
The 16-year-old was found hanging in the woods after failing to show up to Fareham Academy where he was enrolled in a computer science course.
Coroner Jason Pegg said: “Cameron had this background of autism – which resulted in bullying at times. Not only did he take his own life, he intended to do so.”
