Previously, the spinning record was held by Tony Hawk who managed to do a 900 at the 1999 X Games after a series of failed attempts. At that time, Hawk was 31 years old.
While other skateboarders managed to do 1080s, and 1260, before, those attempts were done on a mega ramp, a large-scale vert ramp that makes it easier to perform stunts of this kind.
Congratulating the dedicated young man were dozens of fans and fellow skateboarders as well as X Games who dubbed Gui “the first skateboarder in history to land a 1080 on a vert ramp.”
“Gui Khury just became the first skateboarder in history to land a 1080 on a vert ramp!” X Games wrote on their official account as they shared the footage of the stunt.
“The Brazilian #XGames athlete is only 11 years old. Khury was born almost 9 1/2 years after @tonyhawk first landed the 900 at X Games.”
