9-year-old Laurent Simons from Amsterdam is set to become the youngest person to complete a degree.
Laurent, who was showered by offers from the world’s top universities for further studies, is currently studying electrical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
He is set to graduate next month after finishing his studies in only nine months!
The youngster was only 8 years old when he finished secondary school. He is set to finish his first degree in December and will obtain the title of the youngest graduate from Michael Kearney, who got a degree at the age of 10.
Laurent also hopes to become a heart surgeon or an astronaut.
In an interview with The Telegraph, he said that he wants to go to California to continue his studies as the weather is good there. However, his dad Alexander is thinking of going to the UK.
The 37-year-old dentist said: “Oxford and Cambridge are also in the major league and it would be very much more convenient for us.”
He added: “Laurent’s aim is to do a PhD into life extension, by carrying out research into artificial organs and robotics. It would be great if he could study in the UK.”
Laurent, who can speak four languages and has an IQ of at least 145, has been compared to Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein.
Professor Peter Baltus, his current tutor, said that Laurent is at least three times more intelligent that the smartest student he’s met in his entire career.
Professor John Wilkes, a Dean of Academics at the American University in Switzerland, said: “I taught him when he was six and we studied at the level of a 16 year-old.
“I really would recommend Oxford for him.
“He would develop somewhere the environment is about learning rather than being taught. For someone like Laurent that is ideal.”
