The Brazilian president has spoken out about the US presidential election as he insisted he would wait “a little more” before recognizing Joe Biden’s win.
As President Jair Bolsonaro claimed, he has “sources of information” that suggest there was “a lot of fraud” in the 2020 US presidential election.
“I have my sources of information that there really was a lot of fraud there. Nobody talks about that. If it was enough to define (victory) for one or the other, I don’t know,” Bolsonaro told the reporters, the Associated Press reported.
As the Brazilian president added, extending congratulations to president-elect Joe Biden will have to wait. “I am holding back a little more,” he added.
Taking the topic as an opportunity to pursue his agenda, Bolsonaro expressed his reservations surrounding Brazil’s electronic voting system as he called for a return of the paper ballot system in the upcoming election in the country.
Bolsonaro’s bold allegations follow shortly after Donald Trump doubled down on his voter fraud allegations in his first interview since the election.
In a fiery phone call with Maria Bartiromo of Fox News on Sunday, the U.S. President insisted that he “won the election easily” as he claimed that even “most Democrats” recognize that Biden’s win was due to “election fraud.”
“This is total fraud and how – the FBI and Department of Justice, I don’t know, maybe they’re involved – but how people are allowed to get away from this with this stuff is unbelievable,” Trump said, claiming that “this election was rigged.”
Despite failing to provide any solid evidence, Trump insisted that the mail-in voting system “is a total disaster” and that the Democrats misused the voting machines to rig the election.
“If Republicans allow it to happen, you’ll never have another Republican elected in the history of this country, at a Senate level or at a presidential level… or at a House level,” Trump added.
In his rant, the president went on to call Fox News’ Bartiromo “brave” for daring to talk about the voter fraud allegations as he insisted that the press is being suppressed in America.
“We don’t have freedom of the press in this country. We have suppression of press. You can’t have a scandal if no one reports about it,” the president said. “They make it like we don’t have evidence, we have evidence all over the place.”
