It has been revealed that Brian Laundrie’s father went searching for his son before the day he first claimed the 23-year-old had gone missing.
On September 17, two days before the body of Gabby Petito was discovered, Brian Laundrie was reported missing after he failed to return to his parents’ home in North Port, Florida.
While his parents, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie, previously told the authorities that their son went missing on September 14, it has now been confirmed that his father was already searching for him a day before that, CNN revealed.
According to the Laundries attorney, Steve Bertolino, Christopher Laundrie began searching for his son as early as the night of September 13. It is said that the father was looking for his son at Carlton Reserve after the now-wanted man failed to come back from his trip to the park.
On the following day, after allegedly failing to find his son, Christopher returned to the park together with his wife to continue the search.
This statement, however, doesn’t appear to add up with the previous statement made by Brian’s parents. On September 17, the pair reportedly told the authorities that they hadn’t seen their son for the last three days. They also said the last time they saw their son was when he left for a hike in the reserve near their home on September 14.
Though the Laundries appeared to lose track of the dates surrounding their son’s disappearance, the family’s attorney brushed aside the discrepancies as he admitted that Brian could have gone missing earlier than his parents first claimed.
“The Laundries were basing the date Brian left on their recollection of certain events,” Bertolino said.
“Upon further communication with the FBI and confirmation of the Mustang being at the Laundrie residence on Wednesday September 15, we now believe the day Brian left to hike in the preserve was Monday September 13.”
The attorney also went on to claim that Christopher and Roberta Laundrie believe that their son is still located in the Carlton Nature Reserve.
