A bride-to-be passed away after a thunderstorm caused a construction crane to fall onto their apartment only three months before their big day.
Eric Ridenhour and Kiersten Smith were preparing to tie the knot and were enjoying a normal Sunday in their apartment on June 9.
Sadly, a high-wind thunderstorm caused a construction crane to fall onto their flat in Dallas, crushing 29-year-old Smith.
Ridenhour said to ABC News: “Everything kind of just went dark. I don’t remember hearing a sound.
“It happened so fast, and the first words out my mouth were my fiancée’s name. I don’t know how many times I said her name. I screamed her name and I could not find her.”
Only a few steps away from his fiancé, Ridenhour was making sandwiches when a crane suddenly fell onto the Elan City Lights residential building.
Smith was rushed to a local hospital where she was declared dead.
“She makes it hard to grieve. When I look back on my memories, all I can do is smile. I guess that’s a blessing and a curse,” Ridenhour said to ABC, calling his fiancé ‘a beautiful, caring person.’
He added: “Time is really precious. In a split second, everything that you love can be gone.”
“I would do anything to have a moment with Kiersten, to tell her I love her. I feel if someone is at fault, they need to be held accountable,” Ridenhour expressed.
Smith’s dead was ruled an accident due to a blunt force trauma head injury. Five people were hospitalized but are expected to be fine, according to WFAA and ABC.
“Kiersten’s death is unbelievable, shocking and unnecessary,” Smith’s family said in a statement.
Spokesperson Randy Smith said to WFAA: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were killed and injured, and to those that suffered property damage.
“We are mobilizing personnel to the site to find out more.”
