A couple has been slammed on social media after offering their wedding guests better meal options in exchange for more expensive wedding gifts.
As the Jersey Bride wedding blog reported, the couple in question allegedly sent out the controversial RSVP cards to their guests as part of a ‘joke’ and didn’t intend to pull through with the tiered wedding menu.
Nevertheless, photos of the tiered menu quickly made rounds on the internet after the guests allegedly failed to see the funny side of the letter.
In their RSVP cards, the couple offered four levels of meals based on the value of the gift that would be submitted to them.
While the lowest-ranking ‘loving gift’ worth up to $250 would get the guests roasted chicken or swordfish, a ‘silver gift’, worth up to $500, would result in delicacies such as sliced steak and poached salmon.
The third tier on the card represents a ‘golden gift’ of value up to $1,000 and allows guests to choose from lobster tails or filet mignon along with options available to lower tiers.
For their final wedding menu tier, the couple offered a two-pound lobster and a souvenir champagne goblet in exchange for a ‘platinum gift’ worth at least $1,000.
In addition, the couple also offered “vegetarian and Kosher meals” to attendees who would give them a platinum level gift.
After the backlash during which the couple was accused of being offensive and rude, the bride and the groom allegedly claimed it was all a part of their prank on their wedding guests.
“After this started getting gossiped about (and posted on FB), the couple who sent this out with their wedding invitations said it was a joke, and they were surprised no one ‘got’ the joke,” the Jersey Bride blog explained.
