A furious bride has spoken out and accused her mother-in-law of secretly putting on her wedding dress and damaging the gown in the process.

As the 26-year-old unnamed US bride revealed in her Reddit post, her future MIL “stretched” and “broke” her wedding dress after wearing it without her permission.

To further complicate the matters, the bride’s fiancé’s parents have allegedly refused to compensate her or replace her damaged dress.

According to the bride, who shared her experience on ‘Am I the A**hole’ forum, her partner took her wedding dress and gave it to his mom after she requested to try it on herself. After the dress was returned to the bride, the fabric was “stretched out” and the zipper broken.

“My future mother in law kept annoying me and sending me suggestions for choosing the right wedding dress, and said that she knew better and tried to get me to approve of wedding dresses that she chose and when she couldn’t enforce her decision she demanded that I take her with me to buy my wedding dress so she could have an opinion,” the bride explained.

While the bride eventually agreed to her MIL’s demands, she went shopping for the dress with her mother instead after the MIL said she couldn’t make it on the chosen date.

“I was able to find a really nice dress although it cost me a little over what I saved up for, but it was worth it. I made some changes to it and it was perfect, it arrived to my apartment at the end of the week, I made sure it was stored in a safe place so it doesn’t get ruined,” the bride added.

One day, however, the 26-year-old was shocked to see that her wedding dress was missing. After realizing that her boyfriend was missing as well, the bride instantly knew what was going on.

“I called him immediately knowing that he must’ve taken it to show it to his mom since she continuously asked to see it and refused to have me send her pictures of it on Facebook,” she went on.

“I was so mad when it was confirmed that my fiancé took it to show it to his mom. He said he was gonna be home in 30 minutes after he went to the supermarket.”

After the fiancé arrived back home, he allegedly carried the wedding dress “buried underneath” the bags filled with groceries, whereas the bride quickly spotted that the zipper was broken and “the dress itself was stretched out.”

“I was like what the f*** happened to it, my mother in law must’ve tried it on, because it looked ruined, the straps were almost loose,” the bride said.

After the fiancé admitted that both his mother and sister tried on the wedding dress, the bride called his family in search of an apology and compensation.

“I was absolutely livid, she told me she did nothing wrong and that I was making a big deal out of it,” the bride recalled.

“She said she’d get a replacement for the broken zipper, but I told her to pay for a new dress since it was stretched out and no longer fitting. She refused and said that I probably wasn’t happy with my dress choice and wanted to her to pay so I could get a new one.”

While the 26-year-old revealed how her own mother offered to have the dress fixed for her, she already hates the dress because her in-laws got to wear it before her.

“I’m mad at both of them and seriously considering postponing the wedding,” she concluded.

After her story went viral, the bride received tons of support from fellow Reddit users who suggested that both her MIL, SIL, and fiancé crossed the line when they decided to violate her trust by using her wedding dress without her permission.
