A bride was left in shock after receiving a brutal text message from her soon-to-be mother-in-law who was shopping for a wedding dress with her.
As an anonymous woman from California revealed in her Reddit post, she was out shopping for her wedding dress together with her mom and her future mother-in-law.
While the trip allegedly went as planned, the bride-to-be was in for the shock of her lifetime after returning home only to receive an accidental text message from her fiancé’s mother.
According to the unnamed woman, her future MIL accidentally sent her a message in which she complained about the entire day and called it a “sh** show.”
Upset by the text, the bride took to Reddit to speak out about her experience and ask people for advice on how to move forward.
“Overall, we had a great day and I got the most amazing dress. My mom cried and my fiancé’s mom cried … it was special,” the bride, who was about to marry her boyfriend of ten years at the time, wrote.
“At lunch my mom told everyone she suggested I keep my maiden name for work only and take my fiancé’s name for personal life. My fiancé’s mom agreed with my mom because that is what she does for work too.”
After the day came to an end, the bride returned home thinking everything turned out great only to receive a brutal text from her future MIL.
“The text said the whole day was a sh** show and that my mom advised me to not take my fiancé’s name for career reasons,” the woman added.
“I’m so hurt that she would go around spreading lies about my mom. She knows that’s not what my mom said.”
After the bride allegedly spoke to her boyfriend and got him to talk to his mother about the text, the MIL refused to apologize.
“Honestly, I’m more worried she is now going around to his family and saying mean things about my mom,” the bride expressed.
“I’m not sure what to do at this point. I saw my future mother-in-law the other day and she refused to look at me or even talk to me. But I’m the kind of person who likes to kill you with kindness which seems to drive her crazy.”
After the post went viral, some people suggested that the fault lies in the MIL and that she likely isn’t going to change. Others encouraged the bride to make sure that her boyfriend has her back before tying the knot in case the MIL causes more problems in the future.
