37-year-old Helen Hoaken has been jailed after smashing the skull of her maid-of-honor when she discovered she had slept with her fiancé.
The bride-to-be grabbed Carol Clarkson by the hair and pushed her to the ground so hard that her head crashed into the asphalt road.
The maid-of-honor was knocked out cold and suffered bleeding on the brain and fractured skull. An emergency operation was needed to save her life and she spent five days in the hospital.
Hoaken was about to marry her fiancé when she found out that he had been unfaithful with Clarkson, 32.
She saw her best friend in the street and attacked her as she came back to the apartment complex where they were living.
The angry woman was arrested after the attack and has been in custody for most of the time. Their wedding has been postponed and will have to wait until she is released.
Hoaken was jailed for 10 months at Exeter Crown Court.
“Miss Clarkson was going to be the maid-of-honour at your proposed wedding. It became apparent to you there had been some form of sexual infidelity between her and your husband-to-be,” Judge Timothy Rose said to Hoaken.
“You were no doubt particularly hurt and angry with her. I understand your position. You saw her and approached her from behind without any warning at all.
“You took hold of her hair with quite some violence and hurled her to the floor in a quite shocking way. CCTV footage showed the shocking nature of what you did. She could have suffered far more serious consequences.”
Mr. Simon Burns, prosecuting, said the victim was left unconscious after suffering from a fracture to the left portion of her skull.
