Despite the heartbreaking plea, Britney Spears failed to remove her father’s conservatorship after Judge Brenda Penny denied her request.
On Wednesday, Judge Penny presided over the case in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The judge signed a new ruling which continues to give Britney’s father, Jamie to control over her life.
More details on why Penny made the decision is yet to be revealed, although a new petition calling for the singer’s freedom is expected to be filed soon.
On June 23, Britney sent shockwaves to the world with her request to resume control of life, after spending 13 years under a conservatorship, which handed control of Spears’ financial affairs and daily life to Jamie.
Britney begged Judged Penny on June 23 to free her from the court-ordered conservatorship that has given her dad control over her life and her $60 million fortune for the last 13 years.
“I want this conservatorship to end, I truly believe that this conservatorship is abusive,” Britney told the court. “I want to be able to get married to my boyfriend and have a baby but the conservatorship told me I can’t do that.”
“I have an IUD (intrauterine device) inside me to prevent me from having a baby,” Britney said. “I want to go to a doctor and take it out so I can have a baby but they (the conservatorship) told me no. I feel ganged up on and bullied and alone.”
The last time the singer spoke directly to the judge was in May 2019 but the court was shut down to the public and her testimony was then sealed.
In addition, details of her mental health have never been disclosed.
However, instead of removing Britney’s dad as conservator, Jamie Spears and the independent Bessemer Trust were appointed as co-conservators.
According to court documents, Britney’s request to remove her father was denied.
“Spears’ request to suspend her father, James P. Spears, immediately upon the appointment of a financial institution as sole conservator of the estate is denied without prejudice,” the Los Angeles Superior Court ruled.
The court hearing drew a large crowd outside the courthouse in Los Angeles with fans demanding that her freedom should be restored.
The #FreeBritney campaign is a movement started by Britney’s fans and believed that she should regain control over her life and affairs.
Britney has been trying hard to remove Jamie as her conservator, calling him ‘obsessed’ with her and describing his influence over her business affairs as ‘oppressive.’
Unfortunately, Judge Penny refused to remove 68-year-old Jamie and instead appointed a financial services company, Bessemer Trust, to share conservatorship duties with him.
