Britney Spears’ Father Remains In Control Of Her Conservatorship After Court Hearing

Britney Spears’ 68-year-old father, Jamie Spears, remains in control of the pop star’s conservatorship following the first court hearing that took place after the 38-year-old singer requested her dad is removed from his role as her conservator.

On Tuesday, Britney’s court-appointed lawyer filed papers that state the ‘Hold It Against Me’ hitmaker not only “strongly opposed” to the role of her conservator being in the hands of her father but also wishes for her temporary conservator, Jodi Montgomery, to keep the role permanently.

Rather, without in any way waiving her right to seek termination of this conservatorship in the future, she strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role,” the legal documents filed by Britney’s lawyer, Samuel Ingham, read according to The Blast.point 248 | 1

Following the first court hearing that took place on Wednesday, however, the management of the singer’s conservatorship remains unchanged.

According to a court document shared online by Britney’s supporters, of whom some had gathered at the court on the day of the hearing, the current arrangements have been extended until February next year.

While the authenticity of the document wasn’t immediately confirmed, TMZ claimed that sources informed them that the conservatorship can’t be considered for a change until the pop star files all the necessary legal documents.

As some sources allegedly also insisted, the singer has been suffering from mental illness and has been declared incapable of making important decisions on her own.

Montgomery has been assigned the role of Britney’s temporary conservator in 2019 after the singer’s father, Jamie, started experiencing health problems.

To make sure her father doesn’t take control of her estate and finances again, Britney now wants Montgomery to be assigned as her permanent conservator.

“We are now at a point where the conservatorship must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes,” the ‘Circus’ hitmaker’s lawyer said.

As Ingham added, a legal showdown is an option, as he believes that his client’s father will react “aggressively” to the changes requested by Britney.

“Britney herself has expressed to me a desire that we associate an attorney or law firm with substantial expertise in handling contested litigation in a highly complex case such as this one through trial,” the lawyer added.
