A teenage girl revealed how her own brother avoided her during his wedding after she failed to follow one of his rules.
According to the 18-year-old lady in question, she was banned from her brother’s wedding photos after refusing to wear a sky blue or fuchsia-colored outfit to his wedding.
As the girl wrote in her Reddit post, her brother and his fiancée requested all of their wedding guests to wear clothes that are sky blue or fuchsia because they wanted a color-coordinated wedding.
“For whatever reason, they put on the invites that they wanted the guests to wear certain colors,” the teenager (let’s call her Laura) explained.
“The invites said the acceptable colors were fuchsia and sky blue. I asked my brother about it and he said it was just something he and his fiancé wanted and thought it would be fun to have a color-coordinated wedding.”
Since she only wears clothes that are black or white, however, Laura wasn’t willing to adhere to her brother’s request.
“Like, I literally do not own any clothing that is not black, white or a combination of the two,” she added.
After complaining to her brother about the request, Laura was told to just look for something in their chosen colors because that’s something they wanted for their wedding.
Refusing to budge, the sister went on to complain to her parents only for the mother to offer to buy her something of a different color she normally wears because “wearing something a different color for a few hours is not going to kill me.”
Laura, however, was still not satisfied.
“When we went shopping I hated everything she made me try on and she ended up just buying a couple things in the two colors and brought them home,” she added.
“The morning of the wedding I refused to put either thing on.
“I had brought my favorite black dress that was more than nice enough for any wedding and decided to wear that instead. Both my mum and dad told me to put on something else, but I refused and eventually my parents just dropped it and told me they didn’t want to fight about it anymore.”
Needless to say, the 18-year-old’s brother was less than pleased when his sister appeared at his wedding wearing a black dress.
“So when we were doing family pictures, my brother made a point to tell me that I would not be involved in any of the larger group shots with the wedding party and the rest of our family,” Laura says.
“He told me that he’s fine with me being in pictures with just our family, but that I would stand out too much in all of the other group shots because I was literally the only person who didn’t wear their preferred colors.”
As the teenager added, her brother refused to argue about it any further after telling her that he was disappointed by her for not following one simple request. In response, Laura called her brother an a**hole and accused him of forcing people to dress the way he likes.
“I got a lot of weird looks from people during the ceremony and reception and my brother and his wife pretty much avoided me completely the entire time. Even my parents kept their distance from me. I really don’t think I did anything wrong because my brother’s request was stupid from the beginning,” she concluded.
After asking the internet for an opinion, Laura was in for a big shock, whereas people were quick to voice their support for the groom.
“It’s a dress. Wearing pink for a few hours isn’t going to melt your skin off. You knew that it was a simple request and you still dug in your heels and decided to be a brat because you apparently think the whole world revolves around you,” someone wrote.
“I feel so sad for your brother — for your family, in general. To have a sister or daughter who can’t think about someone other than herself long enough to just put on a garment — that was already purchased and ready for you — to show love and support for someone’s milestone event,” another added.
“You must not love or care for your brother very much. It was such a simple, small thing to do to show support, and you couldn’t even try.”
