An 11-year-old boy stepped in to take his little sister to a father-daughter dance after her father failed to show up.
Trelysia Hamerter, 29, from Covington, Georgia, took to Facebook to share photos of her daughter Skyler, seven, and son Christian on the night of the dance.
The mother shared how her daughter’s dad couldn’t show up for the father-daughter dance for the second year in a row.
‘This is the 2nd year that my daughter’s father stood her up for the Daddy/ daughter dance. She cried because she had her heart set on going,’ the mom wrote.
‘I felt so bad because there was nothing I could do because I’m not a male (obviously),’ she continued.
‘Then her big brother stepped in and said he’d take her because he wanted his sister to know that she deserves a man keeping his word and making her feel special…y’all I literally cried…’
‘Just know that I’m raising someone a GREAT HUSBAND one day.’
The mom told Today that her daughter really wanted her father to come to the dance with her because he didn’t appear to take her the year before.
‘This year she comes to me ahead of time and says, “Mommy, I want my dad to come with me to the dance. I don’t want grandpa. I want my dad, I want everyone to know I have a dad,”‘ she said.
She said Christian saw her sister crying the day before the event and asked her what happened. After she explained the issue, he promised he would take Skylar to the dance if her dad didn’t show up.
She told Today that her kids had a great time at the dance. In a picture she shared, Skyler is wearing a long gold dress while her brother is donning a blue suit with a bow tie that matches her gown.
The post has gone viral and garnered thousands of views. Social media users showered love for the brother-sister as one wrote, ‘Awesome!!! If only more women raised their boys to be this great!! They are both beautiful. You go mom keep up the good work.’
