Brothers Trapped In A Hot Car As Temperatures Inside Reached Over 135F


Two brothers, aged one and three, got trapped in a hot car for 90 long minutes as temperatures inside the vehicle hit more than 135F (57C).

Police officers responded to a call about two missing children on Saturday at 2:35 pm and found toddler siblings Ivan Salazar, 1, and Daniel Garcia, 3, unresponsive inside a car parked outside their home in Montevallo.

The children’s family said they believed the siblings were in their rooms playing but they went outside together and climbed into the car, accidentally locking themselves inside.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the call about the missing children and found the brothers’ bodies inside the parked vehicle.

Sheriff John Samaniego said in a statement: “Our hearts and prayers are with the family of those two little boys during this unimaginable tragedy.”

Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans said the siblings’ death were consistent with Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke.

Temperatures that day were approximately 91F (32C) and inside air temperatures exceeded more than 130F (54C).

Heartbroken relatives of the siblings made two big crosses outside the vehicle outside the home.

An obituary described little Daniel as “one of the happiest kids you would ever meet.” He ‘adored his baby brother’ and would ‘never let him out of his sight.’

“He loved playing outside and riding his four-wheeler and little car,” the obituary added.

The obituary about Ivan said he had ‘always wanted to be held.’

“He was a momma’s boy during the day but wanted his daddy as soon as he arrived him. He loved and adored his daddy,” it added.
