Another death in one of the bull festivals of Spain has hit the headlines.
A man has been gored to death by a bull at a festival being held in Alicante, Spain.
The bull had reportedly charged straight into the man and thrown him up into the air with its massive horns, on Thursday. It then pinned the unlucky man against a wall and slashed into his abdomen that hit an important artery.
The bull did not stop there and continued goring the man causing an 8-inch gash across his leg.
A brave on-looker succeeded in distracting the animal away from the man, which let other spectators rush to his aide. The man after being led away from the arena, was rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, the medical professionals were unable to save his life and he was declared dead as a result of his injuries.
One minute of silence was dedicated out of respect and all festival activities were suspended for the day. An investigation has been launched into the man’s death by the Civil Guard and the local magistrate.
A representative of the Petrer Town Hall as well as the Pinoso mayor Lazaro Azorin offered their condolences to the man’s family and friends.
Event organiser Francisco Albert has reportedly confirmed that the man was a professional in these festivals and was known to have taken part in the events often.
He also remarked that the second time that the bull had pinned the man and attacked was the cause for most damage. It had apparently affected an important artery that had resulted in his death.
While cases like this are deeply unfortunate, they are not a rarity in the country. Earlier this year, a matador had also been gored to death by his backside in the arena.
The unfortunate bullfighter, matador Juan Leal had made the grave mistake of turning his back on the ferocious animal at a very inopportune moment that had resulted in his death.
