Bullying is probably one of the toughest things many kids go through in their school life.
But the unfortunate thing is that many grownups also have to face this issue at the hands of some cruel members of the society.
With the increasing number of social media users, bullying has become very easy. All you have to do is write a bad comment about someone! That’s exactly what happened with Jessica McDaniels.
The hardship of being bullied was nothing new for her as she had been bullied since childhood due to her teeth. But cheers for the brave lady, this bullying brought a great change in her life. Jessica happened to stand in the background of a photo, capturing the moment of her friend being proposed. She was smiling with all her heart not knowing what nature had in store for her in the form of that photo.
Due to the intensity of the moment, her teeth were fully exposed for a big happy smile. Sadly, some coldhearted guy zoomed and cropped her face out of the photo and posted it online. Once the photo went viral, many terrible bullies wrote all sort of bad and ‘cruel’ things about her appearance.
None of them neither thought about the pain that Jessica had gone through all her life nor how she would feel after finding her photo getting ‘roasted’ by strangers!
She was definitely not in control of her appearance or her teeth. And she could have also not afforded the expensive oral surgery amounting ‘at least $3,000’ in her case, as estimated by a dental expert.
Jessica suffered from an extreme overbite during her childhood which not only distorted her teeth but also severely affected her hearing. Due to her limited resources, she had to make a choice between her teeth or her ears and she decided to spend money on her hearing.
After founding her photo online, Jessica felt devastated but fortunately, she got support from various people. One of her high school friends, Krystal Starks, even made a GoFundMe account for her after knowing this bullying incident. She intended to raise money for Jessica’s dental surgery.
And guess what, the page received $8,667 out of the aimed $10,000 from her supporters within very less time. Even that’s not the end! Dr. Maryann Udy, a kind-hearted oral surgeon, volunteered to treat her teeth for free.
Jessica then decided to use the donations for covering her household costs and paying her bills. Well, she definitely deserves some happiness after going through a hell of a bullied life!
Dr. Udy treated her after going through a lengthy process of bone remodeling and dental implants with the result that her beautiful smile was ultimately fixed. Jessica has now decided to help other people facing similar problems in their lives.
What a joyful ending of a disheartening story!
