Burger King has made headlines after asking people to order from McDonald’s as well as other fast-food chains in a surprising statement.
As Burger King UK suggested in their statement ahead of the country’s lockdown, they encourage people to order food from a variety of food outlets because “restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support at the moment.”
“Order From McDonald’s,” the statement shared on Twitter by @BurgerKingUK read.
“We never thought we’d be asking you to do this. Just like we never thought we’d be encouraging you to order from KFC, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Five Guys, Greggs, Taco Bell, Papa John’s, Leon… or any of the other independent food outlets, too numerous to mention here. In short, from any of our sister food chains (fast or not so fast).
“We never thought we’d be asking you to do this, but restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support at the moment.
“So, if you want to help, keep treating yourself to tasty meals through home delivery, takeaway, or drive thru. Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is also not such a bad thing.”
After the statement went viral, plenty of people were quick to praise the company for their warm message. Not everyone, however, agreed with the message the fast-food chain was sending to people.
“All these chains will unfortunately be fine. I’ll be spending my cash at local places instead,” one person wrote in response.
“These are multi billion dollar corporations. Order from the local guy down the street, not these clowns,” another one added.
In support of small businesses, one person suggested: “Yeah the whole point of that is to support SMALL businesses. All those conglomerates are doing justttt fine.”
