A bus driver and a father-of-three has been left brain-dead after a group of thugs beat him for enforcing coronavirus pandemic rules by requesting them to wear face masks on a public transport vehicle.
The attack occurred in Bayonne, France, where 58-year-old Philippe Monguillot was working his shift when a group of five “down and outs” entered his bus.
Besides refusing to show their tickets, the group allegedly refused to listen to Monguillot who told them they were required to put on face masks as per government regulations.
After confronting the group, the dad of three girls aged between 18 and 24 was dragged out of the bus and beaten until he was left disfigured.
“They got on the bus without masks, and also refused to show a ticket. The first to get on had a dog with him – they just assumed they could all get on and do what they want, but the driver had to do his job,” an investigating source revealed according to the Daily Mail.
“When he stood up to them, a very unpleasant argument developed, and voices were raised and then the driver was attacked when everybody spilled out on to the bus platform.
“Philippe was punched and kicked repeatedly and then left with serious injuries, before the gang escaped.”
Following the assault, the bus driver, who was described as hardworking by one of his colleagues, has been left brain-dead.
As the dedicated man’s wife, 52-year-old Veronique Monguillot, expressed in an interview with Le Parisien, the family’s lives “were destroyed in a couple of seconds.”
“He can’t leave us like this, he was going to be 59 years old soon. No, you don’t do this over a bus ticket. You don’t kill for free like this!” she told the local media.
According to the reports, the five attackers are facing charges whereas they are yet to be publicly identified.
