Detroit-based Jason Hargrove was a bus driver who went viral after scolding a woman for refusing to cover her mouth while coughing in his Facebook video.

As Mr. Hargrove expressed, the woman not only put him but everyone on the bus at risk by removing her mask and failing to cover her mouth in the presence of other passengers.

“We out here as public workers, doing our jobs, trying to make an honest living to take care of our families, but for you to get on the bus and stand on the bus and cough several times without covering up your mouth … that lets me know that some folks don’t care. Utterly don’t give a f**k, excuse my language,” the driver said.

Throughout his 8-minute long video, Hargrove pleaded with people to self-isolate and take the pandemic seriously because “it’s folks dying out here.”

“I’m mad right about now because that s*** was uncalled for. And I’m trying to be the professional that they want me to be, so I kept my mouth closed,” he added.

Unfortunately, Hargrove has passed away from COVID-19 two weeks after the incident took place. It isn’t clear if the bus driver contracted the virus from the coughing passenger.

“I don’t know how you can watch it and not tear up. He knew his life was being put in jeopardy, even though he was going to work for the citizens of Detroit every day, but somebody just didn’t care,” Mayor Mike Duggan said as he confirmed the bus driver’s passing to the press.

Making sure that the hardworking man’s death won’t be in vain, the mayor also took the incident as an example to urge the people to stay at home and cover up their faces when they go out.
