After being kicked and beat, a 65-year-old Asian woman has been hospitalized with injuries after being assaulted in New York City.
Bystanders who witnessed the incident did not reach out to help, allowing her to be harassed.
Luckily, the crime had been recorded on camera in a neighboring building, capturing the moment it happened while taking action on the bystanders who didn’t move an inch.
The man who had assaulted the woman spewed disgusting and racist comments, telling her, “F*ck you, you don’t belong here.” He repeatedly kicked the old lady, punching her in the head until he left the scene.
The video captures a man of a strong stature, wearing a light jacket and jeans underneath. His face is also included in the video, and police have been asking for information in order to identify the attacker. It is still being investigated by New York’s Hate Crimes Task Force.
The bystanders had been caught on video as well; the building owner of The Brodsky Organization suspended in their activities “in conjunction with their union,”
Another worker who was allegedly present is being identified in order for appropriate action to be taken upon them.
The attack on the woman is horrendous, officials of the deployment of undercover Asian officers have been released in order to alleviate violence against the community.
The victim had been taken to NYU Langone Hospital in a stable condition, but she suffers from a fractured pelvis and injuries to her head.
Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, describes the video as “absolutely disgusting and outrageous’ and said that it was unacceptable that the witnesses around her did not intervene.
“I don’t care who you are, I don’t care what you do, you’ve got to help your fellow New Yorker. If you see someone being attacked, do whatever you can. Make noise. Call out what’s happening.”
“This is something where we all have to be part of the solution. WE can’t just stand back and watch a heinous act happening.”
