A Caesars Palace employee died from coronavirus shortly after being forced to return to work in order to pay for the bills and support his family.
51-year-old Adolfo Fernandez passed away at Las Vegas’ Sunrise Hospital just days after he had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and shortly after returning to his job at the casino.
As the man’s family confirmed in an interview with KVVU-TV, Fernandez worked at Caesars Palace as a utility porter.
According to his heartbroken daughter, Irma, the casino is to be blamed for her father’s death because they allegedly didn’t take proper measures to protect their employees from the killer virus.
“I am going to fight for justice because he told me constantly that they are not using the correct safety precautions at work. They are not protecting their employees,” the daughter expressed.
As Irma added, her dad suffered from work-derived stress that only worsened after he had returned to work. Ultimately, he contracted coronavirus that proved to be fatal.
“Little by little he was fading away. His death was so painful,” Irma added. As she claimed, her father had suffered two heart attacks after the diagnosis and before his premature death.
Following the man’s death, the company in charge of running the Caesars Palace confirmed the case and offered their sympathies to the Fernandez family.
“While we have not been able to determine how the employee contracted the virus, once the employee informed us about testing positive, the company implemented its protocols to determine who had been in close proximity with this individual at the direction of the Southern Nevada Health District,” Caesars Entertainment reassured the public.point 431 | 1
“As a result, a small number of employees were identified to be in this category and are now on paid leave while self-isolating. None of these individuals, to our knowledge, have tested positive at this time. They will not return to work until they obtain a negative test result.”
